Digital Hybrid Mural Module by Dr. Martie Geiger-Ho

Dear All,
Dr. Martie Geiger-Ho, one of our participating artists, would like to share her digital hybrid mural module with all of you.
Prof. Kong Ho
Although I have only been in Brunei Darussalam for about a week, I already feel the vibrancy of this lovely place. It is very spiritual here in the sense that the activities of people are culturally interwoven into the patterns of the natural world. This is the feeling that I wanted to capture in my digital image.

A Sample of Digital Hybrid Mural Module

Dear All,
Herewith are some digital images showing you the development process of my digital hybrid mural module. As we have mentioned in our project flyer that your digital hybrid mural module can be either just an outstanding digital photograph or a computer-generated image with your own photograph. The following sample reveals the action command of Adobe Photoshop which can help you to manipulate the image to generate an intriguing result from a single motif.

Also, each participant will be invited to participate in the digital mural workshop, guided mural tour, online discussion forum and attend the Creative Industries Festival Opening Ceremony in April 2012 at the Mall.

Project Objectives

This studio-based research project will bring artists and students together so that they can brainstorm and learn as a group while still being able to produce a section of a mural for which they are responsible. A hybrid hanging digitally printed mural would seem to be an ideal medium for showcasing Brunei’s emerging and established visual artists to the public.
This experience will help to prepare these artists and UBD students to contribute to the project and further promote their innovative ideas, knowledge and dedication to the cause of developing Brunei’s creative industries at an international level.
Visions of Brunei will be a collaborative multimedia art project involving as many as 24 talented artists and UBD art students. The final hybrid mural will consist of 24 modules digitally printed as a large-scale mural on fabric.
All of the digital art images that will be incorporated into the mural will be works of art that have been created using computer graphic technology. These art images may either be digital photographs or computer generated images that have been manipulated to achieve their final compositions.
The final dimensions of this digital hybrid mural will depend on the largest industrial printing capabilities that Brunei has to offer and the expected mural dimensions will be 6 meters high by 4 meters wide. The expected dimensions of each ndividual module mural will be one square meter.
There will be a 10-minute multimedia presentation of how this digital hybrid mural was designed and fabricated. This research project not only showcases potential creative talents in Brunei, but also by giving artists and students a chance to actualise their ideas, it helps to provide them with an important means for sharing their visions of Brunei’s cultural identity.
It is important for the participating creative talents and the public to become more engaged with and aware of the importance of artistic expression and its impact on cultural, economic, social and geographical issues that are part of the dynamics for the development of the creative industries in Brunei.
Through this studio-based research project, 24 creative talents will bring their new visions and perspectives together to create an energetic large digital hybrid mural. Visions of Brunei will provide a means for the general public to understand better the perceptual world of a diverse range of contemporary creative talents.
Furthermore, this pilot scheme project will help to open the door between the public and the visions of creative talents who are destined to become the backbone of Brunei’s creative industries.
